About Shivneri fort – The birth place
Shivaneri fort is part of Junnar forest area near to Malshej Ghat. Junnar Taluka, Pune district, Maharashtra, India. शिवनेरी किल्ला माळशेज घाटाजवळील जुन्नर वनपरिक्षेत्राचा एक भाग आहे. जुन्नर तालुका, पुणे जिल्हा, महाराष्ट्र, भारत.

Shivneri fort was build in Yadav kal. If we check a shape of fort and surround place is look like a Shivalinga just like statue of lord Shiva. The Goddess of fort which also a Gramdevata of Shivneri Name is Shivai devi. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj The King of Maratha samrajya born at Shivneri fort. Matoshri Jijamata, mother of Shivaji maharaj kept the name of new born baby “Shivaji” as per Goddess name “Shivai “.
शिवनेरी किल्ला यादवकाळात बांधला गेला. किल्ल्याचा आकार आणि सभोवतालची जागा तपासली तर ती शिवलिंगासारखी दिसते. गडाची देवी जी शिवनेरी नावाची ग्रामदेवता देखील आहे ती शिवाई देवी आहे. मराठा साम्राज्याचा राजा छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज यांचा जन्म शिवनेरी किल्ल्यावर झाला. शिवाजी महाराजांच्या आई मातोश्री जिजामाता यांनी नवजात बाळाचे नाव “शिवाजी” ठेवले.
Jijamata gave us a gift, which was just like a tiger of Sahyadri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. If we think further it’s The birth of the great Maratha Empire. The Birth Place of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, The Birthplace of Swarajya – Independence. Shivaji Maharaj starts their study and training in Social Affairs, politics, fencing, Dandpatta with his teacher Dadaji Kondev.
सह्याद्री छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज, या मानव रूपी, वाघासारख्या शौर्य असणार्‍या, बाळ शिवरायांना येतेच जिजामातेने जन्म दिला. जणू स्वराज्याला एका राजाची भेट दिली. अजून पुढे विचार केला तर तो एक महान मराठा साम्राज्याचा जन्म आहे. छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांचे जन्मस्थान, स्वराज्याचे जन्मस्थान – स्वातंत्र्य. म्हणजे शिवनेरी. शिवाजी महाराज यांनी त्यांचे शिक्षक दादाजी कोंडदेव यांच्यासोबत सामाजिक व्यवहार, राजकारण, तलवारबाजी, दांडपट्टा या विषयांचा अभ्यास आणि प्रशिक्षण येथेच घेतले.
Personal Experience
Mumbai to Junner
I visited this place with my friend Rakesh. While our bike ride Mumbai to Shivneri fort via Lonavala – Narayan Gaon route. It’s again a night ride. We reached Narayan Gaon at 6:30 am. Due to full night ride we both become a hungry at that time we saw many tea stall so we stope and done our breakfast. A delicious Kanda pohe and hot Tea. We might be a first customer of that tea stall. After finishing breakfast we mover towards Junner and reached at 8:00 Pm
मी माझा मित्र राकेशसोबत या ठिकाणी गेलो होतो. आमची बाईक राईड, मुंबई ते शिवनेरी किल्ल्या पर्यंत होती. त्यासाठी आम्ही, लोणावळा – नारायण गाव मार्गे जात रात्रीचा प्रवास करण्याचे ठरवले. सकाळी साडेसहा वाजता नारायण गावाला पोहोचलो. रात्रीच्या पूर्ण प्रवासामुळे आम्हा दोघांनाही भूक लागली त्या वेळी आम्हाला अनेक चहाचे स्टॉल दिसले म्हणून आम्ही थांबून नाश्ता केला. स्वादिष्ट कांदा पोहे आणि गरमागरम चहा. आम्ही कदाचित त्या चहाच्या स्टॉलचे पहिले ग्राहक असू. नाश्ता उरकून आम्ही जुन्नरच्या दिशेने निघालो आणि रात्री 8:00 वाजता पोहोचलो
At Shivneri Fort
We park our bikes opposite to toys stall at base. we got proper space for parking because we reach in early morning.
We started to climb step by steps while climbing we go through many door. When we count there are total 7 doors on the fort. All the door are interconnected with each other and the distance between the two doors was approximately 100 to 120 meters. When we saw the door we fill that, door me be renovated with cement concrete because they look in proper shape as new construction. This area was undertaken by The Forest department. They made a beautiful garden and kept named Tanaji Malusare garden. People can eat their food and take a rest in Garden.
We meet a few school students along with their teachers, who had visited the fort as their picnic spot. We had a word about Chatrapati Maharaj and his dids. I made them chant “Chatrapati Maharaj ki jai!”! It was bliss for ears by hearing these chants by the next generation. We clicked many images at every Spots to memorized this wonderful movement.
Next to Tanaji Malusare garden. We saw small footpath going towards our next spots Chatrapti Shivaji maharaj Janma sthan/ Birthplace.
Birth place of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
A building has a very simple standalone structure. We enter in promises and saw a small Hammock (Palana) in side the locked room. Deem light maintains inside the room so it fill the original and live scenes. The birth of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, There was a staircase at left hand side for first-floor.
After that we start our return journey via Junnar- Malshej Ghat, Ganesh khind, Manik doh dam, kalyan Mumbai route.

How to reach Shivneri fort Travel Guide
There are two routes to visit Shivneri fort from Mumbai.
- Via Malshej Ghat – Thane – Kalyan – Malshej ghat – Junnar – Shivneri fort. = 168 Km
- Via Lonavala Ghat – Talegaon – Chankan – Narayan Gaon – Junnar – Shivneri Fort
- If you want to travel by public transport you have to check bus for Junnar. You will get connective bus or Vehicle for Shivneri fort.

Tips and Guidance about Shivaneri fort
- Shivneri Fort is taking care of by the forest department so Video shooting is not allowed
- There are many Indication board about wild animals and snakes so be careful
- Try to visit in the early morning for amazing views
- Sufficient Parking is not available at the base so if you have a four-wheeler, park at list half kilometer away from fort, It will help you to choose best parking space and minimal traffic while returning.
- Hotels and resorts available in Junner, Camping facility is also available Pmpalgaon joga dam near by just 32 km.
- Main source of water in Shivneri fort named as Ganga Jamuna tank which natural source of child water.
