Bhigvan is a small village near Solapur – Pune Highway in Maharashtra India. The  Bima river back water at Ujani Dam. Which came in to the farmers farm. So the water logging create less deep lake in very big area. Due to less deep water fish in lake is more visible. Which attract many birds like flamingo and other. This is how Bhigwan become a famous Bird Sanctuary.

भिगवण हे महाराष्ट्रातील सोलापूर-पुणे महामार्गालगतचे एक छोटेसे गाव आहे. उजनी धरणात भीमा नदीचे पाणी जे शेतकऱ्यांच्या शेतात आले. त्यामुळे मोठ्या भागात पाणी साचल्याने कमी खोल असा तलाव तयार होतो. कमी खोल पाण्यात असल्याने तलावात मासे जास्त दिसतात. जे फ्लेमिंगो आणि इतर अनेक पक्ष्यांना आकर्षित करतात. अशा प्रकारे भिगवण हे प्रसिद्ध पक्षी अभयारण्य बनले आहे

A place for Bird watching so many bird lover visit this place multiple time because every time they found different migrated birds like flamingo and others came from all over the world.

हे पक्षी पाहण्याचे जगविख्यात ठिकाण असल्यामूळे. अनेक पक्षीप्रेमी या ठिकाणी अनेक वेळा भेट देतात कारण प्रत्येक वेळी त्यांना फ्लेमिंगो आणि इतर अनेक स्थलांतरित पक्षी हे त्यांच्या नियोजित वेळे नुसार जगभरातून भिगवण येथे आलेले आढळतात.

Personal experience

I visited this place while my bike ride Mumbai to Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary. It’s a solo night ride. I started from Mumbai at 10:30 pm because I wanted to visit Bhigwan in the early morning. I know that it looks amazing while sun raising so to experience that movement.

मुंबई ते भिगवण पक्षी अभयारण्य मोटर-सायकलवरून मी या ठिकाणी गेलो होतो. ती एक सोलो नाईट राईड होती. सकाळी सूर्योदयापूर्वी भिगवणला जायचे असल्याने मी मुंबईहून रात्री साडेदहाला निघालो. मला माहित आहे की सूर्य उगवता वातावरण हे आल्हाददायक असते म्हणून त्याचा अनुभव घेण्याचा प्रयत्न केला आणि त्यात यशस्वी झालो.

The route was via Lonavala – Wakad and I reached Pune. I took a small tea break at Pune, after that I move towards Solapur road. Bhigvan was 100 km away from Pune. I enjoyed a long night bike ride and finally, I reached Bhigvan village in early morning at 6:00 am.

मार्ग होता लोणावळा – वाकड मार्गे आणि मी पुण्याला पोहोचलो. मी पुण्याला चहाचा छोटासा ब्रेक घेतला, त्यानंतर मी सोलापूरच्या रस्त्याने निघालो. पुण्यापासून भिगवण 100 किमी अंतरावर होते. मी रात्रीच्या मोटर-सायकल राईडचा आनंद लुटला आणि शेवटी सकाळी ६:०० वाजता भिगवण गावात पोहोचलो.

Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary is just 3 km away from the main road. The road condition gave me a total off-roading experience. It’s like a small village road. When I reached the endpoint. Boatmen preparing their boat. might be I am the first-person of that day.

भिगवण पक्षी अभयारण्य मुख्य रस्त्यापासून फक्त ३ किमी अंतरावर आहे. रस्त्याच्या स्थितीमुळे मला संपूर्ण ऑफ-रोडिंगचा अनुभव मिळाला. एखाद्या लहानशा गावासारखा रस्ता आहे. जेव्हा मी शेवटच्या टप्प्यावर पोहोचलो. नौकाधारक त्यांची बोट तयार करत आहेत. कदाचित मी त्या दिवसाची दिवसाचा त्यांचा पहिला ग्राहक होतो.

Boating Charges and Options

I check the boating package. They have two plans. One was an individual or private which cost Rs. 1000/- and the Other on a share basis Which cost approximately 200 to 250 per person.

I selected share option, We saw there are many bird flying in the air. Our boat men was a very young boy and he have a good knowledge about bird. He gave us a total Information about Bhigvan Bird Sanctuary.

Bhigvan Bird Sanctuary is made by Ujani Dam backwater, It’s actually a farm of local farmers. Due to water logins it’s become a lake. Flamingo like this place because of the overall environment and less deep water with full of fish and other food.

भिगवण पक्षी अभयारण्य उजनी धरणाच्या बॅकवॉटरने बनवलेले आहे, हे खरे तर स्थानिक शेतकऱ्यांचे शेत आहे. पाणी साचल्यामुळे त्याचे तलाव झाले आहे. एकूणच वातावरण आणि मासे आणि इतर खाद्यपदार्थांनी भरलेले कमी खोल पाणी यामुळे फ्लेमिंगोला हे ठिकाण आवडते.

Our boatmen known all type of bird and their name so whenever different bird came near our boat he notified us with type of bird seen in Bhigwan with name of birds.

If you travel by public vehicle you have to come to Bhigwan bus depo. from bus depo you will gate Auto for Bhigwan Bird sanctuary

  • Two teams operate Boat facilities. One is located at Starting point and the other at the endpoint. The endpoint team is more knowledgeable and respectful they will also provide proper tips and guidance.
  • The best time to visit Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary is winter September to December.
  • Bhigvan is a Small village so I recommend staying in the nearest city Baramati just 23 km away.
  • Carry some fish food and some bird food with your to attract birds.
  • Binoculars is must to see bird, If you don’t have you will get at Boat ticket booking stall in nominal cost.
