Vajra is the weapon of Indra, due to which even large mountains can be destroyed, and Ishwari is the goddess. Vajreshwari is the goddess who protects from Vajra.
वज्र म्हणजे इंद्राचे शस्त्र, ज्याच्या आघातामुळे मोठमोठे पर्वत सुद्धा मातीमोल होऊ शकतात आणि ईश्वरी म्हणजे देवी. वज्रापासून रक्षण करणारी देवी म्हणजे वजरेश्वरी.
The incarnation story of Vajreshwari Devi – वज्रेश्वरी देवीचे अवतार कथा
Vashishta sages performed Tri Chandi Yajna in this area to get protection from demons like Kalikal, Sinhamal, Dantur and Durdhar. Since Indra did not get Abirbhav at this time, Vashishta Rishi is trying to gain dominance over him. Feeling this, Indra fought a war with Vashishta sages. In this battle Indra used Vajra. In order to prevent the catastrophe from Vajra, Shaktirup Adimaya, Goddess Parvati rushed to the devotees and embraced the Vajira in her womb. That is why this incarnation of Goddess got the name Vajreshwari.
कालीकल, सिंहमाळ, दंतुर आणि दुर्धर अशा असुरां पासून संरक्षण मिळण्यासाठी वशिष्ठ ऋषींनी या भागात त्री चंडी यज्ञ केला. यावेळी इंद्राला अविर्भाव न मिळाल्याने वशिष्ठ ऋषी आपल्यावर वर्चस्व प्राप्त करण्याचा प्रयत्न करत आहे. असे वाटल्यामुळे इंद्राने वशिष्ठ ऋषींची युद्ध केले. या युद्धात इंद्राने वज्राचा वापर केला. वज्रापासून होणाऱ्या महाप्रलय रोखण्यासाठी शक्तिरूप आदिमायेने, देवी पार्वतीने भक्तांच्या हाकेला धावून ते वजीरा आपल्या उदरात सामावून घेतले. म्हणूनच देवीच्या या अवताराला वज्रेश्वरी हे नाव पडले.

Historical significance of the Vajreshwari Devi temple
Peshwa Chimaji Appa of Maharashtra built this temple. The story behind it is as follows. महाराष्ट्रातील पेशवे चिमाजी अप्पा हे मंदिर बांधले. त्यामागची कथा खालील प्रमाणे.
Peshwa Chimaji Appa invaded the fort of Vasai to subdue the brutal Portuguese rule, He had made a vow to Goddess Vajreshwari that if I won this battle, I would build the temple as Goddess did. And what a surprise that Peshwa won the battle and so Chimaji Appa built a magnificent temple at this place and made it look like a fort.
पोर्तुगीजांच्या क्रूर शासनाला वचक बसवण्यासाठी त्यावेळचे पेशवे चिमाजी अप्पा यांनी वसईच्या किल्ल्यावर स्वारी केली, त्यापूर्वी त्यांनी श्री वज्रेश्वरी देवीला नवस केला होता की, जर मी ही लढाई जिंकेन तर मी देवीची केल्यासारखं मंदिर बांधेन. आणि काय नवल त्या लढाईत पेशव्यांच्या विजय झाला आणि त्यामुळे चिमाजी अप्पा यांनी या ठिकाणी भव्यदिव्य मंदिर बांधुन दिले व त्याचे स्वरुप एका किल्ल्या प्रमाणे ठेवले.

The feature of this Dattatraya temple is that both the Rudraksha and Audumbar trees stand in awe around this temple. It is a blessing to have this tree of unique spiritual significance in one place. This place has been sanctified by the grace and blessings of Shri Dattatreya. An idol of Shri Dattaguru is installed in a small shrine in the middle of the temple.
या दत्तात्रय मंदिराचे वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे या मंदिराच्या सभोवताली रुद्राक्ष आणि औदुंबर हे दोन्ही वृक्ष अगदी दिमाखात उभे आहेत. अनन्यसाधारण अध्यात्मिक महत्व असलेले हे वृक्ष एकाच जागी असणे म्हणजे एक दैवयोग आहे. श्री दत्तात्रेयांच्या कृपा आशीर्वादाने हे स्थान पवित्र झाले आहे. मंदिराच्या मधोमध एका छोटेखानी देव्हार्‍यात श्री दत्तगुरूं यांची मूर्ती स्थापित केलेली आहे.
Tips and Things to do
If you visit here after 4 pm, you will get less crowds Temple time :- Morning 5:30 am to 9 pm You can visit Shiva Temple and Datta Temple in the temple area. Vajreshwari is famous for its hot springs. They are on the lower side of the temple.
तुम्ही येथे दुपारी ४ नंतर भेट दिल्यास, तुम्हाला गर्दी कमी मिळेल मंदिराची वेळ :- सकाळी ५:३० ते रात्री ९ तुम्ही मंदिर परिसरातील शिव मंदिर आणि दत्त मंदिराला भेट देऊ शकता. वज्रेश्वरी तिच्या गरम पाण्याच्या झऱ्यांसाठी प्रसिद्ध आहे. ते मंदिराच्या खालच्या बाजूला आहेत.

Food courts : There are many hotels in the vicinity of the temple. But for a great meal we recommend Hotel Jalsa Kathiyawadi restaurant on Vajreshwari and Vasai Road. ambiance food quality and quantity are great.
