Information and History of Pargad fort – पारगड किल्ल्याची माहिती आणि इतिहास
The history of the construction of this fort is hidden in the name of Pargad. Par means the end, Kolhapur is an important part of the Maratha Empire. This area was surveyed during the invasion of Goa by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The site was chosen geographically very close to Goa at that time and another impregnable plateau of the Sahyadri to monitor the movements of the Portuguese army.
पारगड या नावातच या किल्ल्याच्या निर्मितीचा इतिहास दडलेला आहे. पार म्हणजे टोकाचे, मराठा साम्राज्यातील एक महत्त्वाची बाजू म्हणजे कोल्हापूर. छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या गोवा स्वारी दरम्यान या भूभागाची पाहणी करण्यात आली. पोर्तुगीज सैन्याच्या हालचालींवर नजर ठेवण्यासाठी त्यावेळी भौगोलिक दृष्ट्या गोव्या पासून अगदी जवळ असलेले हे ठिकाण आणी सह्याद्रीचे अजून एक अभेद्य अश्या पठाराची निवड करण्यात आली.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj himself built this fort. And named this fort as Pargad. Raiba Malusare, son of Narveer Tanaji Malusare, who sacrificed his life at Sinhagad, was honored to be the first Sardar of Pargad fort. This shows how well Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took care of his companions and his family. In fact, this is why every Mawla, regardless of his life, came to the task of building Swarajya.
स्वतः छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी या किल्ल्याची बांधणी करुन घेतली. आणी या किल्ल्यास पारगड हे नाव देण्यात आले. या किल्ल्याचे पाहिले सरदार होण्याचा मान हा सिंहगडावर स्वतः च्या प्राणाची आहुती देणारे नरवीर तानाजी मालुसरे यांचे सुपुत्र रायबा मालुसरे यांना बहाल करण्यात आले. यावरून छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या त्याच्या साथीदार आणी त्याचे कुटुंब यांचा सांभाळ किती उत्तम प्रकारे केला हे दिसून येते. किंबहुना यामुळेच प्रतेक मावळा जिवाची पर्वा न करता स्वराज्य बांधणीच्या कामी आला.
Personal Experience
We are fortunate to be able to visit Pargad fort under the guidance of Subhedar Balkrishna Vitthal Gawde (Ex Military Force Maratha Battalion). He gave useful information about the fort as well as the surrounding family. We started our journey from Sawantwadi. Crossing Amboli Ghat, we reached Pargad by crossing many small and big ghats via Chowkul and Isapur. Except for the 2 km road between Chowkul and Isapur, it was a lot of fun to drive on the well maintained road.
सुभेदार बाळकृष्ण विठ्ठल गावडे (Ex मिलिटरी फोर्स मराठा बटालियन) यांच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली पारगड या किल्ल्यास भेट देता आली हे आमचे सौभाग्य मानतो. त्यांनी गडाबद्दल तसेच सभोवतालच्या परिवाराबद्दल उपयुक्त अशी माहीती सांगितली. प्रवासाची सुरवात आम्ही सावंतवाडी पासून केली. आंबोली घाट पार करून चौकुळ, इसापूर मार्गे अनेक छोटे मोठे घाट पार करत आम्ही पारगडला पोहोचलो. चौकुळ ते इसापूर दरम्यानचा 2 km चा रस्ता वगळता बाकी अगदी सुस्थितीत असलेल्या रस्त्यावर गाडी चालवण्यात धम्माल आली.

Pargad fort is still standing. 320 steps, bastions, some broken cannons, temples of Shiva period have been well preserved and preserved. पारगड किल्ला आजही सुस्थित आहे. शिवकालीन 320 पायर्‍या, बुरुज, काहीशा भग्न अवस्थेतील तोफा, मंदिरे यांचे उत्तम संवर्धन आणी जतन करण्यात आले आहे. मुख्य म्हणजे येथील स्वच्छ परिसर हा येथील स्थानिकांनी छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज यांना दिलेला मानाचा मुजरा म्हणावा लागेल. शिवरायांचे वाक्यं आकाशात चंद्र सूर्य असे पर्यंत गड जागता ठेवा. हे खरे करण्याचा विडा सर्वानी उचललेला आहे.

पायर्‍या चालून वर गेल्यावर भव्य असे मारुती मंदिर लागते. त्या शेजारी शिवकालीन तोफांचे अवशेष ठेवण्यात आले आहेत.
Statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
In the center of the fort, at courtyard of the primary school, there we saw a small statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and one old a Shiva-era Tulsi Vrindavan.
किल्ल्याच्या मध्यभागी प्राथमिक शाळेच्या प्रांगणात छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज यांचा छोटेखानी पुतळा आणी समोर शिवकालीन तुळशी वृंदावन आहे.
Shree Bhavani temple Pargad fort
On one side of the fort there is a magnificent temple of Bhavani Mata. To enter the temple, one has to enter through an arch. As soon as we enter in arch, we saw the statues of Jijamata and Bal Shivaji Maharaj are placed in a closed glass on the left side. Adjacent to the main entrance of the temple are two replicas of the Mavals. In the temple there is a beautiful and glorious idol of Goddess.
गडाच्या माथ्यावर एका बाजूस भवानी मातेचे भव्य असे मंदिर आहे. मंदिरात जाण्यासाठी एका कमानीतून आत जावे लागते. आत जाताच डाव्या बाजूला जिजामाता आणी बाळ शिवाजी महाराज यांचा पुतळा बंद काचेत ठेवलेले आहेत. मंदिराचा मुख्य दरवाज्याच्या शेजारी मावळ्यांच्या दोन प्रतिकृती आहेत. मंदिरात देवीची मनमोहक आणी तेजस्वी मूर्ती विराजमान आहे.
