Rantdurga fort information and History

The treasure of gems is the sea, Ratnagiri situated on such a beach. Ratnadurga may have been named because it situated on the seashore of Ratnagiri. It is also called the fort of Bhagwati.

रत्नांचे भांडार म्हणजे समुद्र, अश्या समुद्र किनारी वसलेले रत्नागिरी तेथील अगदी समुद्राजवळ असलेला किल्ला असल्यामुळे या किल्ल्याचे नाव Ratnadurga ठेवले असावे. किल्ल्यावर असलेल्या भगवती मंदिरामुळे यास भगवतीचा किल्ला असेही म्हंटले जाते.

The fort was conquered by the ruler, Adil Shah, then by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and a large part of it was rebuilt. It included new towers, temples and other structures. It was then handed over to Kanhoji Angre, the then naval chief of the Maratha Empire, for supervision. Therefore, Kanhoji Angre had the greatest influence on this fort. In the pre-independence period, the British conquered and occupied this fort.

येथील राज्यकर्ते, प्रथम आदिल शहा त्यानंतर छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज यांनी हा किल्ला जिंकला, आणी त्याचा बराचसा भाग नव्याने बांधुन घेतला. त्यामध्ये नवीन बुरुज, मंदिर अश्या वास्तूंचा समावेश होता. तद्नंतर मराठा साम्राज्याचे त्यावेळचे नौदल प्रमुख कान्होजी आंग्रे यांना देखरेख करण्यासाठी सुपूर्द केला. त्यामुळे या गडावर सर्वात जास्त प्रभाव कान्होजी आंग्रे यांचा होता. स्वातंत्र्यपूर्व काळात इंग्रजांनी या किल्ल्यावर जिंकून  त्यावर अधिराज्य केले.

Personal experience Rantdurga fort

We had visited Ratnadurg fort during our Ratnagiri trip. The fort is only 5 km away from Ratnagiri city. So in the evening after visiting other tourist places in Ratnagiri we visited Ratnadurg fort. One of the reasons for this is during the afternoon, the fort and the surrounding environment generate more heat due to the evaporation process of the sea.

आम्ही आमच्या रत्नागिरी सहली दरम्यान रत्नदुर्ग किल्ल्याला भेट दिली होती. रत्नागिरी शहरापासून हा किल्ला फक्तं 5 km अंतरावर आहे. त्यामुळे रत्नागिरीतील इतर प्रेक्षणीय स्थळे पाहिल्यानंतर संध्याकाळी आम्ही रत्नदुर्ग किल्ल्यास भेट दिली. याचे एक कारण म्हणजे दुपारच्या वेळी किल्ला आणी सभोवतालच्या वातावरण हे समुद्राच्या बाष्पीभवन प्रक्रियेमुळे अधिक उष्णता निर्माण होते.

Parking facility available at foot of the fort. You have to walk a few steps to reach the main gate of the fort. Next to the main gate, two soldiers are stationed on elephants to guard the fort. The main door is wooden.

किल्ल्याच्या पायथ्याची पार्किंगची सोय आहे. किल्ल्याचं मुख्य द्वाराकडे जाण्यास थोड्या पायर्‍या चालून जावे लागते. मुख्य द्वारा शेजारी दोन सैनिक हत्तीवर बसुन किल्ल्याचं जणू रक्षण करण्यासाठी तैनात आहेत. मुख्य दरवाजा लाकडी आहे. दरवाज्याच्या शेजारी काही सुचना फलक आहेत.

Bhagwati Temple at Ratndurga fort

There is a temple of Goddess Bhagwati at the very beginning of the fort. It is considered as the village deity of Ratnagiri and Koli brothers, hence this fort is also known as Bhagwati fort. Devotees visit here regularly during Navratra and other festivals.

येथे किल्ल्याच्या अगदी सुरुवातीला भगवती देवीचे मंदिर आहे. हे रत्नागिरी आणी येथील कोळी बांधवांचे ग्राम दैवत मानले जाते म्हणुन या किल्ल्याला भगवती चा किल्ला असे ही संबोधले जाते. येथे नवरात्र आणी इतर उत्सवाच्या वेळी भाविक आवर्जून भेट देतात.

Water tunnel – पाण भुयार

At the bottom of the fort is a naturally formed water tunnel inside a rock near the sea. According to locals, it must have been a Shiva-era secret passage from which soldiers and spies were used to harass. Many people visit here as a unique adventure. Better a poor horse than no horse at all.

किल्ल्याच्या खालील बाजूस समुद्राजवळ एक दगडाच्या आतून नैसर्गिकरित्या बनलेले एक पाण भुयार आहे. काहींच्या मते तो शिवकालीन छुपा रस्ता असावा जेथून सैनिक आणी गुप्तचर यांना येजा करण्यासाठी याचा वापर केला जाई. बरेच जण येथे एक अनोखे adventure म्हणुन भेट देतात. येथे जाण्यासाठी कमी भरती असलेली वेळ अधिक चांगली.

Lighthouse – दीपस्तंभ

There is a lighthouse on the hill in front of the Ratnadurga fort. Which is used to guide a boat coming from the sea. In the rain, the area looks more beautiful and scenic. There is a great view of the sea from here.

Ratnadurga किल्ल्याच्या समोरच्या बाजूस डोंगरावर दीपस्तंभ आहे. ज्याचा उपयोग हा समुद्रातून येणार्‍या बोटीला मार्गदर्शन करण्यासाठी होतो. पावसात हा परिसर अधिक सुंदर आणी निसर्गरम्य दिसतो. येथून समुद्राचा उत्तम नजारा पाहता येइल.

Ramparts Of Ratndurga fort
