Purandar fort information and Historical events travel guide

Purandar means Indra, according to the Puranas, it was the Indranil mountain. In the Ramayana, when Lakshmana became unconscious after being hit by a poisonous arrow in the last battle, Lord Hanuman went to the Himalayas and brought the Dronagiri mountain with its life-giving herbs. While traveling through the sky, some part of it fell here. It was later named as Indranil Parvat. The same mountain is today’s Purandar in the Sahyadri mountain range. Many of these rare medicinal plants are found here today.

पुरंदर चा अर्थ इंद्र, पुराणातील कथे नुसार हा इंद्रनील पर्वत होता. रामायणात जेव्हा अखेरच्या युद्धात विषारी बाण लागून लक्ष्मण जेव्हा बेशुद्ध झाला त्यावेळी भगवान हनुमान यांनी हिमालय जाऊन संजीवनी बुटी असलेला द्रोणागिरी पर्वत घेऊन आला. आकाशातून भ्रमण करतेवेळी त्यातील काही अंश हा याठिकाणी पडला त्याला पुढे  इंद्रनील पर्वत असे नाव पडले तोच पर्वत हा आजचा सह्याद्री पर्वत रांगेतील पुरंदर. येथे आज ही अनेक दुर्मीळ औषधी वनस्पती आढळतात.

The lion of the Marathi Empire was born at Purandar. The second Chatrapati of Maharashtra, Sambhaji Maharaj, was born to Rani Saibai, his mother and wife of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He later took political science and Purana lessons from Rajmata Jijabai. At the age of thirteen, he faced many difficult situations and created his own distinct identity. He was a great ruler, a poet, invincible in more than a hundred battles. He kept his religion and self-esteem alive till his last breath. Respect to our Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

पुरंदर येथे इंद्राचे तेज घेऊन मराठी साम्राज्याच्या सिंहाचा जन्म झाला. महाराष्ट्रचे दुसरे छत्रपती संभाजी महाराज, त्यांची आई आणी छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज यांची पत्नी राणी सईबाई यांच्या उदरी जन्मास आले. पुढे त्यांनी राजमाता जिजाबाई यांच्या कडून राज्यशास्त्र आणी पुरणाचे धडे घेतले. वयाच्या तेराव्या वर्षात त्यांनी अनेक कठीण प्रसंगांना सामोरे जाऊन स्वतःची वेगळी ओळख निर्माण केली. ते एक उत्तम राज्यकर्ता, कवी, शंभरहून अधिक लढायांमध्ये अजिंक्य. शेवटच्या स्वासा पर्यंत त्यांनी स्वधर्म आणी स्वाभिमान जिवंत ठेवला. अश्या आमच्या छत्रपती संभाजी महाराज यांना मानाचा मुजरा.

• Treaty of Purandar: – It was signed between Mughal chief Mirza Raje Jaisingh and Chhatrapati. In which the Marathi Empire had to merge many forts into the Mughal Empire.

• पुरंदर येथील राजवटी: क्रमशः निजामशाही, आदिल शाही, मराठा साम्राज्य, मुघल, पून्हा मराठा साम्राज्य, इंग्रज आणी सध्या भारतीय सैन्य प्रशिक्षण केंद्र.
• छत्रपती संभाजी महाराजांचे जन्मस्थान.
• पुरंदरचा तह:-  मुघल सरदार मिर्झा राजे जयसिंग आणी छत्रपती   यांच्या दरम्यान झाला. ज्यामधे मराठी साम्राज्याला अनेक किल्ले  मुघल राजवटीत विलीन करावे लागले.
• पुढे पेशवा आणी इतर मराठी सरदार यांनी पुरंदर पुन्हा काबीज केला.
• स्वातंत्र पूर्व काळात येथे इंग्रजांचे शासन होते.
• सध्या पुरंदर किल्ल्याचे रूपांतर भारतीय सैन्य यांचे प्रशिक्षण शिबीर यामध्ये करण्यात आले आहे. त्यामुळे सुरक्षिततेचा बराच भाग हा प्रतिबंधित केला गेला आहे.

Personal experience Mumbai to Purandar fort bike ride road trip

We visited Purandar fort during our bike ride from Mumbai to Purandar-Saswad. For this road trip we left Mumbai at 11:30 pm, reached Saswad via Lonavla Katraj, Bopadev Ghat. From there we visited some temples and Samadhi of Saint Sopan Maharaj and headed towards Purandar fort.

आम्ही आमच्या मुंबई ते पुरंदर – सासवड या बाइक राईड दरम्यान पुरंदर किल्ल्यास भेट दिली होती. या रोड ट्रीप साठी रात्री 11:30 vajta मुंबई येथून मधून निघालो, लोणावळा कात्रज, बोपदेव घाट मार्फत सासवड येथे पोहोचलो. तेथून काही मंदिरे आणी संत सोपान महाराज यांच्या समाधीचे दर्शन घेऊन पुरंदर किल्ल्याच्या दिशेने निघालो.

On the left side of the main road, you can see the way to Purandar fort. At some distance the main arch appeared. The loss began as soon as the arch was crossed. Stunning scenery all around, winding ghat road. The delicate stream of rain and the aroma of the soil on it are all fragrant and just as captivating.

मुख्य रस्त्याच्या डाव्याबाजूला पुरंदर किल्ल्यावर जाण्याचा मार्ग दिसला. काही अंतरावर मुख्य कमान दिसली. कमान पार करताच घाटाला सुरुवात झाली. सभोवताली असलेले अप्रतिम नैसर्गिक देखावे, वळणावळणाचा वर चढत जाणारा घाट रस्ता. त्यावर पावसाच्या नाजूक धारा आणी त्यामुळे मातीचा येणारा सुगंध सारेच काही आल्हाददायक आणी तेव्हढेच मनमोहक.

Current condition of Purandar fort पुरंदर किल्ल्याची सध्याची परिस्थिती

The fort is currently under the control of the Indian Army. Therefore, the maintenance of the fort is in good condition. Much of the fort has been converted into a military training camp and some areas have been restricted to tourism.

सध्या हा किल्ला भारतीय सैन्य दल यांच्या ताब्यात आहे. त्यामुळे गडाचा रखरखाव उत्तम स्वरुपात आहे. किल्ल्याचा बराचसा भाग हा सैन्य प्रशिक्षण आणी छावणीत रुपांतरीत झाल्यामुळे येथील काही भूभाग हा पर्यटनासाठी प्रतिबंधीत करण्यात आला आहे. किल्ल्यावर उत्तम असे छायाचित्र संग्रहालय आहे. काही जागी उद्यान, मंदिरे, शिलालेख, आणी महाराज आणी सरदार यांच्या प्रतिमा आहेत.

Entry process of Purandar fort travel guide

To visit Purandar fort, first check your complete information and the items brought at the military check post as well as your identity card. You are then given a note. A paper with a code number according to which, on return, tourists are re-registered. From this, the tourists who came to the fort and the tourists who came down from the fort are recorded. There is no charge for going to the fort.

पुरंदर किल्ल्यास भेट देण्यासाठी प्रथम मिलिटरी च्या चेकपोस्टवर आपली संपूर्ण माहिती आणी आणलेल्या वस्तूंची तपासणी तसेच ओळखपत्र याची पडताळणी केली जाते. त्यानंतर आपणास एक चिठ्ठी दिली जाते. जो एक सांकेतिक आकडा असलेला कागद ज्या नुसार परतीच्या वेळी, पर्यटकांची पुनरनोंदणी केली जाते. यावरून गडावरील आलेले पर्यटक आणी गड उतरून गेलेले पर्यटक यांची नोंद केली जाते. किल्ल्यावर जाण्यासाठी कोणतेही शुल्क आकारले जात नाही.

Upon entering the fort there is a military training camp on the right prohibited for tourist. And on the left side, way towards exhibition center where tourists are allowed for Purandar fort Sightseeing under observation of military forces.

4) Statue of Morarji Despande at Purandar fort

Murarbaji Deshpande was the fort keeper of Purandar fort. As a salute to his bravery, a full-length idol with Samsher in both hands has been erected on the Purandar fort. A heartfelt tribute to this warrior who sacrificed his life for Swarajya.

मुरारबाजी देशपांडे हे पुरंदर किल्ल्याचे किल्लेदार होते. त्यांच्या शौर्याला अभिवादन म्हणुन त्यांची पूर्णाकृती मुर्ती पुरंदर किल्ल्यावर स्थापित केली आहे. दोन्ही हातात समशेर घेऊन स्वताचे प्राण स्वराज्या साठी अर्पण करणार्‍या या योद्धयाला हार्दिक श्रद्धांजली.

• It is strictly forbidden to carry binoculars, cameras, drones and other high-tech photography items on Purandar fort.
• Entry fees for Purandar fort :- No Entry fee charged for Entry
• Government identity proof is compulsory for Entry.
• Parking is available inside the fort.
• Fort timing = 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
• Biker with helmet are also eligible for inside fort parking.
