We have visited Sangameshwar during our Konkan tour. Here we met Priest Mr. Satish Sadashiv Lingayat, a native and scion of the Lingayat community. संगमेश्वर प्राचीन मंदिर आणि दक्षिण काशी
आम्ही आमच्या कोकण दौऱ्यात संगमेश्वर येथे भेट दिली होती. याठिकाणी आम्ही येथील मूळ रहिवाशी आणी लिंगायत समाजाचे वंशज श्री सतीश सदाशिव लिंगायत यांना भेटलो. त्यांच्या राहत्या घरी पर्यटक आणी भाविकांना राहण्यासाठी उत्तम सोय अगदी वाजवी दरात करून देतात. वंशपरंपरागत चालून आलेला वारसा व आध्यात्मिक अभ्यास फार उत्तम रित्या जतन केला आहे. त्यांच्याशी संवाद साधला असता अनेक पुरातन आख्यायिका आणी पुरातन मंदिरांची माहिती मिळाली. जी मी आपल्या सोबत शेअर करत आहे.
Dakshin Kashi Vishweshwar at Sangameshwar – Narrative – आख्यायिका
Kashi Vishwanath is a temple in Varanasi. Thousands of years ago, the area of Sangameshwar was as important as Kashi. Many sages used to perform Japa-Tap here, Sage Guru Agasti settled in Harihareshwar and the surrounding Konkan area after bowing to the Vindhya mountain. Lord Parasurama one of the ten incarnations of God Vishnu lived in one of in this area. Due to the arrival of sage Agasti, this area gained great importance. Ancient temples and pagodas were built here. Kashi Vishweshwar and Someshwar temples are among them. All the religious work done in Kashi started to be done here. Triveni Sangmas Prayag Tirtha at Sangameshwar gained importance. But later due to foreign invasion and lack of information, these temples and shrines were neglected with the passage of time. This is a small attempt to bring such neglected places with us.
काशी विश्वनाथ हे वाराणसी नगरी मधील मंदिर सर्व श्रुत आहे. हजारो वर्षांपूर्वी संगमेश्वर या परिसरास काशी येवढेच महत्व होते. येथे अनेक ऋषी मुनी जप-तप करित असत, विंध्यपर्वताला नमवून गुरु अगस्ती ऋषी यांनी हरिहरेश्वर आणी सभोवतीच्या कोकण भागात वास केला. प्रभू परशुराम स्वतः दश अवतारातील एक याच भागात वास्तव्य केले. अगस्ती ऋषी यांच्या येण्यामुळे या भागास प्रति काशीचे महत्व प्राप्त झाले. येथील प्राचीन मंदिरे आणी शिवालय बांधण्यात आली. काशी विश्वेश्वर आणी सोमेश्वर ही मंदिरे त्यापैकीच आहेत. काशी मध्ये होणारी सर्व धर्म कार्य येथे केली जाऊ लागली. संगमेश्वर येथील त्रिवेणी संगमास प्रयाग तीर्थाचे महत्व प्राप्त झाले. पण पुढे परकीय आक्रमण आणी माहितीची कमी असल्याने ही देवालये आणी श्रद्धास्थाने काळाच्या ओघात दुर्लक्षित झाली. अशा दुर्लक्षित ठिकाणांना आपल्या सोबत आणण्याचा हा छोटासा प्रयत्न.
Someshwar temple Sangameshwar – सोमेश्वर मंदिर संगमेश्वर
Someshwar temple is still in good condition. One can reach the Someshwar temple by crossing a stone fence right next to the Lingayat’s house. As there was not much traffic, some wild vegetation had grown around due to the recent rains. Walking through it, we reached the temple. The door of the temple and the overall construction were made in black stone. The temple must have been built by stacking the stones at a certain distance. Because the hollow in that stone was easily visible.
सोमेश्वर मंदिर हे अजून ही सुस्थिती आहे. लिंगायत यांच्या घरापासून अगदी शेजारीच एका दगडी कुंपणाला ओलांडून आपल्याला सोमेश्वर मंदिरात जाता येते. फारशी वर्दळ नसल्याने आजूबाजूला नुकत्याच पडलेल्या पावसामुळे थोडी रान झाडी वाढलेली होती. त्यातून वाट काढत आम्ही मंदिरात पोहोचलो. मंदिराचे दार आणी एकूण बांधकाम हे काळ्या पाषाणात केले होते. दगडांना एका ठराविक अंतरावर रचून हे मंदिर बनवले गेले असावे. कारण त्या दगडा मधील पोकळी सहज दिसत होती.
When we went near the temple, I saw such a stone lattice with beautiful carvings. Most likely it was planned to allow air and sunlight to enter the temple. The arch of the door was somewhat crooked and carved. In fact, it was designed to be bowed down while entering the temple. After entering the temple, a tall assembly hall was seen where the ancient idol of Nandi was still preserved in its full form. At a distance of two steps from there, the beautiful and ancient Pindi of Shri Someshwar i.e. Lord Shiva came into view. After seeing his spirit we proceeded towards Kashi Vishweshwar Temple.
मंदिराजवळ गेलो असता सुंदर नक्षीकाम असलेली अशी दगडी जाळी नजरेस पडली. बहुतांश करून हवा आणी सूर्यप्रकाश मंदिरात येण्यासाठी त्याची योजना केली असावी. दरवाज्याची कमान काहीशी ठेंगणी आणी नक्षीदार होती. किंबहुना देवळात जाताना नतमस्तक होऊन आणण्यासाठी त्याची रचना केली होती. मंदिरात आल्यानंतर उंच असा सभा मंडप नजरेस आला जेथे नंदीची प्राचीन मूर्ती अजुन ही आपली पूर्णाकृती जपून होती. तेथून अगदी दोन पावलांच्या अंतरावर श्री सोमेश्वर म्हणजेच भगवान शिव यांची सुंदर आणी पुरातन पिंडी नजरेस आली. त्यांचे मनोभावे दर्शन घेऊन आम्ही पुढे काशी Vishweshwar मंदिराकडे निघालो.
Kashi Vishweshwar temple Sangameshwar – काशी विश्वेश्वर मंदिर संगमेश्वर
Adjacent to Someshwar temple is the temple of Kashi Vishweshwar. At present it is under the jurisdiction of the Archeology Department. Outside the temple is a broken idol of Nandi. Next to it is an ancient water tank. Surprisingly, there is still water there.
From there we could not go inside the temple. The reason was that the temple was in ruins. It is nothing short of a pity that our legendary architecture should be so neglected. It was dangerous to enter such a dilapidated structure. So we looked at it from the outside. This building is still standing on beautiful stone pillars. The assembly hall in the central part and the gabhara in front of it is a fine example of overall ancient architecture
सोमेश्वर मंदिरा लगत काशी विश्वेश्वर यांचे मंदीर आहे. सध्या हे पुरातत्त्व विभागाच्या अखत्यारित आहे. मंदिराच्या बाहेर नंदी ची भग्न झालेली मूर्ती आहे. तिच्या शेजारीच पाण्याचा पुरातन हौद आहे. आश्चर्य म्हणजे आजुन ही तेथे पाणी आहे. तेथून पुढे मंदिराच्या आत जाता आले नाही. त्याचे कारण होते ते म्हणजे पुरते मोडकळीस आलेले ते मंदिर. आपली पौराणिक वास्तू एव्हढी दुर्लक्षित असावी या सारखी खेदाची बाब नाही. अशा मोडकळीस आलेल्या वास्तूत प्रवेश करणे धोक्याचे होते. त्यामुळे आम्ही त्यास बाहेरून न्याहाळले. सुंदर अश्या दगडी खांबांवर ही वास्तू अजून ही उभी आहे. मध्य भागी सभामंडप आणी त्यापुढे गाभारा असा एकंदर पुरातन वास्तु कलेचं उत्तम उदाहरण आहे.
Both these temples are in dire need of repair and restoration. This is an attempt to bring the neglected temples in front of us and inform everyone about their current status. So that as much help as possible can be given for the conservation of the temple. Through this article, we would like to make an earnest request to the Department of Archeology to provide proper assistance to this crumbling structure before it collapses.
या दोन्ही मंदिरांना डागडुजी आणी जीर्णोद्धार करण्याची नितांत गरज आहे. दुर्लक्षित मंदिरांना आपल्या समोर आणून त्याच्या सद्य स्थितीची माहिती सर्वाना समजाऊन सांगण्याचा हा प्रयत्न. जेणेकरून जेव्हढी होईल तेवढी मदत मंदिर संवर्धनासाठी करतायेईल. या लेखाद्वारे आम्ही पुरातत्व विभागाकडे एक कळकळीची विनंती करू इच्छितो की या ढासळत चाललेल्या या वास्तूला जमिनदोस्त होण्या पूर्वी योग्यती मदत करण्यात यावी. इथे लोक मातीत गाडली गेलेली शहरे पुनरुज्जीवित करताहेत आणी आपण अशी पुरातन संस्कृती मातीमोल करत आहोत.
Dnyanvapi Kashi Kund – ज्ञानवापी काशी कुंड
A short distance further is Gnanavapi Kashi Kund. It is said that the Punya bhumit here actually descended on the Ganga, which made this land as pure as Kashi. Even today, a spring of water can be seen flowing here, the main thing is that even if the water dries up in all other places, this part is flooded. It has to be called divine power. Here there is a temple of Shiva Shankar in secret form. That Shiva Pindi does not have Shalunki which is the upper part on the pindi. Such a pindi is located at Kashi Vishwanath in North Kashi. And the second one is in this kunda i.e. south kashi. It is also said that after praying this shrine, all diseases and defects in the birth chart are cured.
पुढे काही अंतरावर ज्ञानवापी काशी कुंड आहे. याबद्दल असे सांगितले जाते की येथील पुण्य भुमित प्रत्यक्ष गंगा अवतरली ज्यामुळे ही भूमि काशी प्रमाणे पावन झाली. येथे आजही पाण्याचा झरा अविरत पाझरताना दिसतो मुख्य म्हणजे इतर सर्व ठिकाणी पाणी आटले तरी येथील भाग हा जलमय असतो. ही दैवी शक्तीच म्हणावी लागेल. येथे गुप्त स्वरुपात शिव शंकराचे मंदिर आहे. त्या शिव पिंडीला शालुंकी म्हणजे पिंडीवर असलेला वरील भाग नाही आहे. अशी पिंडी उत्तर काशीला काशी विश्वनाथ येथे आहे. आणी दुसरी या कुंडात म्हणजेच दक्षिण काशीत आहे. असेही म्हंटले जाते की या तीर्थाचे प्राशन केल्यावर समस्त व्याधी आणी जन्म पत्रिकेतील दोषांचे निवारण होते.
Bhairi bhavani temple Sangameshwar – भैरी भवानी मंदिर संगमेश्वर
Next to the Kashi Kunda is the Bhairi Bhavani temple. We also visited there. This temple is dedicated to God Kalabhairav and Goddess Jogeshwari Mata. Kalbhairav is considered to be a form of Lord Shiva and Goddess Jogeshwari is considered to be a form of Parvati. Therefore no Shakti Puja is complete without worshiping Kalbhairava. It is said that this is the wrathful and destructive form of Lord Shiva Shankar with three eyes holding Narmund.
काशी कुंडाच्या शेजारी भैरी भवानी मंदिर आहे. आम्ही तेथेही भेट दिली. हे मंदिर कालभैरव आणी जोगेश्वरी मातेला समर्पित आहे. काळभैरव हे भगवान शिवाचे प्रतिरूप तर देवी जोगेश्वरी ही पार्वती चे रुप मानले जाते. त्यामुळे कालभैरवाची पूजा केल्या शिवाय कोणतीही शक्ति पूजा संपन्न होत नाही. असे हे ही सांगितले जाते की हे भगवान शिव शंकराचे त्रिनेत्रधारी नरमुंड धारक क्रोधी आणी संहारक रूप म्हणजे काल भैरव हे आहे.

Karthik Swamy is the son of Lord Shiva Shankar and Lord Parvati and brother of Ganapati Bappa. In Maharashtra, women are prohibited from entering Karthik Swamy’s temple. But in the south, Karthik Swamy is popularly known as Mriganaswamy. There is an opportunity for everyone to have darshan.
कार्तिक स्वामी हे देव शिव शंकर आणी पार्वती याचे पुत्र असून गणपती बाप्पाचे बंधू आहेत. महाराष्ट्रात कार्तिक स्वामी यांच्या मंदिरात स्त्रियांना जाण्यास मनाई आहे. पण दक्षिणेकडे कार्तिक स्वामींना मृगनस्वामी म्हणुन प्रसिद्ध आहेत. तेथे सर्वांसाठी दर्शन घेण्याची मुभा आहे.
Ancient Inscriptions and Shaligrams – पुरातन शिळालेख आणी शाळिग्राम
There are some Shaligrams and carved inscriptions on the front side of the temple. In which some incidents of earlier times are mentioned along with idols of Gods and Goddesses. A study of which shows a summary of much history and Puranic stories in written as well as physical form.
मंदिराच्या समोरील बाजूस काही शाळिग्राम आणी कोरीव शिलालेख आहे. ज्या मध्ये देवी देवतांच्या मूर्ती सोबत पूर्वीच्या काळातील काही घटना नमूद केल्या आहेत. ज्याचा अभ्यास केल्यास बराच इतिहास आणी पुराणातील कथांचा सारांश लिखित तसेच मूर्त स्वरुपात साकारलेला दिसतो.

After seeing all this a thought came to my mind that we have this culture and ancient heritage. With a blessing of our forefathers, Lord Kashi Vishweshwar appeared along with river Ganga at Sangameshwar so this area gained the importance of South Kashi. And we can’t simply maintain it, this is very sad. It is my humble request to all the readers who reading this article to definitely visit this place and try to revive our culture.
