The Gondeshwar temple is generally believed to have been built 1000 years ago. Earlier we have seen the same artwork Karaneshwar temple at Sangameshwar both the temple architecture and craftsmanship are similar. Therefore, it is considered to be a temple of Yadav period i.e. a temple of Pandava period. A little more study shows that the design and construction of this object is of the Yadava period. Yadav means the community of Shri Krishna. Over time, this society ruled the entire Indian world. Many temples have been built during this period to preserve the religious and spiritual heritage.

गोंदेश्वर मंदिर हे सर्वसाधारण पणे 1000 वर्षांपूर्वी बांधले गेले असावेत. यापूर्वी आम्ही समान कलाकृती असलेले संगमेश्वर येथील करणेश्वर मंदिर दोन्ही मंदिराची वास्तु रचना आणी कलाकुसर ही समान आहे. त्यामुळे हे यादव कालीन मंदिर म्हणजेच पांडव कालीन मंदिर मंदिर असल्याचे समजते. अजून थोडा अभ्यास केल्यावर या यादव कालीन वस्तूची रचना आणी उभारणी असल्याचे दिसून येते. यादव म्हणजे श्री कृष्ण यांचा गवळी समाज. कालांतरानं या समाजाने अखंड भारत विश्वावर राज्य केले. धार्मिक आणी आध्यात्मिकतेचा वारसा जतन करण्यासाठी याकाळात अनेक मंदिरे बांधली गेली आहेत.

There is a panchayat style temple. Panchayat means a group of five temples where the main temple is of Shri Shiva Shankar, the other four surrounding temples are Jagdamba i.e. Parvati, Shri Vishweshwar i.e. Shri Vishnu, Shri Vinayak i.e. Ganapati, and Surya Narayan i.e. Sun who is the best of all planets. These temples are established at the four corners of the main temple. Due to the fine craftsmanship on the entire black stone and the equally strong construction, this temple stands still today i.e. even after more than 1000 years.

एक पंचायतन पद्धतीचे मंदिर आहे. पंचायतन म्हणजे पाच मंदिरांचा समूह जेथे मुख्य मंदिर हे श्री शिव शंकराचे असून, सभोवतालची इतर चार मंदिरे ही जगदंबा म्हणजेच पार्वती, श्री विश्वेश्वर म्हणजे श्री विष्णु, श्री विनायक म्हणजे गणपती, आणी ग्रहां मध्ये सर्व श्रेष्ठ असे सूर्य नारायण म्हणजेच सूर्य असे आहे. ही मंदिरे मुख्य मंदिराच्या चार कोपर्‍यावर स्थापित आहेत. संपूर्ण पणे काळ्या दगडावर बारीक कलाकुसर आणी तेव्हढीच भक्कम उभारणी यामुळे हे मंदिर आजही म्हणजेच तब्बल 1000 हून अधिक वर्षानंतरही दिमाखात उभे आहे.

Personal experience and current status of Gondeshwar temple

We visited Gondeshwar during our Mumbai Nashik Sinnar road trip. To reach here you have to take Mumbai Agra Highway to Kasara Ghat, Igatpuri to Ghoti. From there turn to the right side and on the way to Shirdi is Sinnar village. Gondeshwar temple is located just 500 meters from the city.

आम्ही आमच्या नाशिक सिन्नर रोड ट्रिप दरम्यान गोंदेश्वर येथे भेट दिली होती. येथे जाण्यासाठी आपणास मुंबई आग्रा महामार्ग मार्गे कसारा घाट  इगतपुरी मार्गे घोटी पर्यंत जावे लागेल. तेथून उजव्या बाजूस वळून शिर्डी येथे जाण्याचा मार्गावर सिन्नर हे गाव आहे. येथे शहरापासून अगदी 500 मीटर अंतरावर गोंदेश्वर मंदिर आहे.

The outside of the temple is like an ordinary village. The road leading to the temple from the main town is a bit narrow. After parking the car in the parking space outside the temple, we entered the temple. At first we saw a strong rampart, in the center of which was the main entrance. We reached the premises of the temple. And in front Gondeshwar temple which is a fine example of Vastu art came into view.

मंदिर बाहेरील भाग हा साधारण गावा प्रमाणे आहे. मुख्य शहरातून मंदिराजवळ जाण्यासाठी असलेला रोड हा थोडा अरुंद आहे. मंदिराच्या बाहेर असलेल्या पार्किंग स्पेस मध्ये गाडी पार्क करुन आम्ही मंदिरात प्रवेश केला. सुरुवातीस आम्हाला भक्कम अशी तटबंदी दिसली, जिच्या मध्य भागी मुख्य प्रवेशद्वार होते. Je पत्करून आम्ही मंदिराच्या आवारात पोहोचलो. आणी समोर वास्तु कलेचे उत्तम उदाहरण असलेले गोंदेश्वर मंदिर दृष्टीस पडले.

Architecture of Gondeshwar temple and current situation

The temple is surrounded by a fine stone wall and the main structure of the Gondeshwar temple is erected on a grand square about four feet high in the middle. Built entirely of black stone, this temple is standing in Dimakh, but the condition of the surrounding panchayat temples is pathetic. Amazing carvings and craftsmanship can be seen all over the temple. There are some more steps to reach the main temple. A pillar has been erected in the middle of the door to support the weight of this grand door and the structure of temple.

मंदिरास सभोवताली उत्तम दगडी तटबंदी आहे आणी मध्यभागी एका  साधारण चार फुट उंचीच्या भव्य चौथर्‍यावर गोंदेश्वर मंदिराची मुख्य वास्तू उभारली गेली आहे. संपूर्ण काळ्या दगडात बनवलेली हे मंदिर दिमाखात उभे आहे मात्रं सभोवतालच्या पंचायतन मंदिरांची अवस्था दयनीय आहे. संपूर्ण मंदिरावर अप्रतिम नक्षी काम आणी कलाकुसर दिसून येते. येथे रामायण महाभारतातील, दृश्य कैक अप्सरा असलेला स्वर्ग, भैरवनाथ अश्या असंख्य मुर्ती कोरलेली आहेत. मंदिरात जाण्यासाठी अजून काही पायर्‍या आहेत. हे भव्य दरवाजा आणी त्यावर असलेला कळसाचा डोलारा याचे वजन झेलण्यासाठी येथे दरवाज्याच्या मध्यभागी एक खांब उभारण्यात आला आहे.

As soon as you enter through the door, you will see a beautiful setting. The magnificent Pindi of Shiva Shankar here is very impressive. Seeing the floral decorations around the Shiva Pindi here, one realizes that the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the temple is well done. When he came out with darshan, he saw the foundation and culmination of the temple together at one place. After seeing that we started our return journey. As the Sinnar to Ghoti route is a bit dangerous to travel at night, we decided to reach Igatpuri directly without stopping anywhere in between. And at night we had dinner at a dhaba in Kasara and reached Mumbai at midnight.

दरवाज्यातून आत गेल्यावर सुंदर असा गाभारा दृष्टीस येतो. येथे असलेली शिव शंकराची भव्य पिंडी फारच मनमोहक आहे. ती येथील शिव पिंडीच्या भोवती असलेल्या फुलांच्या सजावटीला पाहून एकंदर मंदिराची साफसफाई आणी देखरेख उत्तम प्रकारे केली जात आहे याची जाणीव झाली. दर्शन घेऊन बाहेर आल्यावर एका जागी मंदिराचा पायथा आणी कळस यांचे एकत्रीत दर्शन झाले. ते पाहून आम्ही आमच्या परतीच्या प्रवासाला लागलो. सिन्नर ते घोटी हा मार्ग रात्री प्रवास करण्यासाठी थोडा धोकादायक असल्याने आम्ही मध्ये कोठे ही न थांबता थेट इगतपुरी गाठण्याचे ठरवले. आणी रात्री कसारा येथील धाब्यावर रात्रीचे जेवण करून मध्यरात्री मुंबईत पोहोचलो.
