Caves are said to be a place carved into a single rock with a narrow and narrow path to reach. The Jogeshwari Cave is a little different from this imaginary structure. Information about Jogeshwari caves

According to the information panel here, the cave is similar to the Brahminical rock-cut B architecture and Elephanta (cave no. 1). The Jogeshwari Caves are one of the best examples of century that have come to light during excavations. These vastus are considered to be Pandava period architecture while some scholars believe that Jogeshwari cave was built and decorated by the Mauryas, Kalchuris of Konkan. According to a legend, this cave is said to have been carved by the Pandavas in one night. According to the Department of Archaeology, this object has been declared as a National Monument.

येथे असलेला माहिती फलकानुसार ही गुंफा ब्राह्मणी रॉक-कट बी आर्किटेक्चर आणि एलिफंटा (गुहा क्र. १) शी साम्य आहे. जोगेश्वरी लेणी ही उत्खनन दरम्यान अस्तित्वात आलेली शताब्दी च्या सर्वोत्तम नमुन्यांपैकी एक आहे. या वास्तुस पांडव कालीन वास्तू शिल्प मानले जाते तर काही विद्वान यांच्या मते कोकणचे मौर्य, कलचुरी यांनी जोगेश्वरी गुंफा निर्माण आणी सुशोभित आहे. एका आख्यायिकेनुसार ही गुंफा पांडवांनी एका रात्रीत कोरून तयार केली असावी असे सांगितले जाते. पुरातत्त्व विभागानुसार या वस्तूला राष्ट्रीय स्मारक म्हणुन घोषित केले गेले आहेत.

Personal experience to visit Jogeshwari caves

We have visited Jogeshwari Cave many times. There is a huge crowd of devotees here mainly during Mahashivratri and Navratri. Jogeshwari Caves are located just 15 minutes from Jogeshwari Railway Station of Mumbai Western Railway and 5 minutes from Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road.

जोगेश्वरी गुंफेला आम्ही बऱ्याच वेळा भेट दिली आहे. मुख्यत्वेकरून महाशिवरात्री आणि नवरात्री यादरम्यान येथे भाविकांची मोठ्या प्रमाणावर गर्दी असते. जोगेश्वरी या मुंबईतील पाश्चिम रेल्वेच्या रेल्वे स्थानकापासून अगदी 15 मिनिटांच्या अंतरावर तसेच जोगेश्वरी विक्रोळी लिंकरोड पासून अगदी 5 मिनिटांच्या अंतरावर जोगेश्वरी लेणी स्थापित आहे.

After entering the two stone ramparts from the central settlement, the main entrance to the cave is visible. From there you can enter the main hall by going down some steps. After reaching inside there is a magnificent stone hall. In the middle of it is the temple of Sri Devi Jogeshwari Mata. Stone walls have been carved leaving an equal gap on the four sides of the temple.

मध्यवर्ती लोकवस्तीतून दोन दगडी तटबंदी च्या आत प्रवेश केल्या नंतर गुंफेचे मुख्य द्वार नजरेस येते. तेथून काही पायर्‍या उतरून आपणास मुख्य गाभाऱ्यात प्रवेश करता येतो. आत पोहोचल्या नंतर भव्य असे दगडी सभागृह आहे. त्याच्या मधोमध श्री देवी जोगेश्वरी मातेचे मंदिर आहे. मंदिराच्या चार हि बाजूला समान असे अंतर सोडून दगडी भिंती कोरण्यात आल्या आहेत.

Jogeshwari Devi and Jogeshwari Cave are named after Jogeshwari Devi. Therefore, this deity is considered as the village deity here. Jogeshwari means the Goddess of Righteousness and is actually an incarnation of Goddess Shakti Goddess Parvati. This goddess may have incarnated for the guidance, protection and salvation of yogis who want to attain salvation by practicing yoga.

जोगेश्वरी देवी आणी जोगेश्वरी गुंफा येथिल मंदिर येथील जोगेश्वरी देवीच्या नावे ठेवण्यात आले आहे. त्यामुळे या देवतेला येथील ग्रामदैवत मानले जाते. जोगेश्वरी म्हणजे योग्याची देवता म्हणजे साक्षात देवी शक्ती आणी देवी पार्वती यांचे अवतारी रूप आहे. योगसाधना करून मोक्षप्राप्ती इच्छिणार्‍या योगी व्यक्तींच्या मार्गदर्शन, रक्षण आणी उद्धारासाठी या देवीने अवतार घेतला असावा. मंदिराच्या गाभाऱ्यात चांदीची मनमोहक मूर्ती विराजमान आहे. तेथून दर्शन घेऊन आम्ही उजव्या बाजूस असलेल्या भगवान शंकराच्या मंदिराकडे निघालो.

Coming out of the main temple, we again enter a small cave. There is a deep water stone well on the left side. The small temple of Lord Shiva and its grand pindi are very ancient and charming. Next to the pindi is a copper replica of the serpent king. A big fair is held at Jogeshwari on Mahashivratri and the decorations here are very beautiful. Also, many Shiva devotees and Maha Yogis visit this place without fail. Devotees who come here believe that this place is awake. After visiting there, we proceeded to the next Ganpati temple. Massive stone pillars have been built on all sides. From there again we proceeded to the Ganpati temple through the main gabharya. This method of making a cave by pouring a stone is very unique. There are tanks like water wells everywhere. Especially in which water is found for 12 months.

मुख्य मंदिरातून बाहेर येऊन पुन्हा आपण एका छोटेखानी गुंफेत प्रवेश करतो. तेथे डाव्याबाजूला एक खोल पाण्याची दगडी विहीर आहे. भगवान शिव यांचे छोटेखानी मंदिर आणी त्यातील भव्य अशी पिंडी फार प्राचीन आणी मनमोहक आहे. पिंडीच्या शेजारी नाग राजाची तांब्याची प्रतिकृती आहे. महाशिवरात्रीला जोगेश्वरी येथे मोठी जत्रा भरते त्यावेळी येथील सजावट फार छान असते. तसेच अनेक शिवभक्त आणी महा योगी येथे आवर्जून भेट देतात. हे स्थान जागृत आहे असे येथे येणार्‍या भाविकांची श्रद्धा आहे. तेथील दर्शन घेऊन आम्ही पुढील गणपती मंदिराकडे निघालो. सर्व बाजूंना भव्य असे दगडी खांब बनवण्यात आले आहे. तेथून पुन्हा मुख्य गाभार्‍यातून आम्ही गणपती मंदिराकडे निघालो. एक दगड पोखरून गुंफा बनवण्याची ही पद्धत फार निराळी आहे. जागोजागी पाण्याच्या विहिरी रुपी टाक्या आहेत. विशेष म्हणजे ज्यामधे 12 ही महिने पाणी आढळते.

As the Ganapati temple is a little higher up ahead, one has to climb the stone steps in the cave to go a little higher. Step area has full sun exposure. After some time we reached Ganapati temple and saw the magnificent Shendur Vilepit idol. hi The idol is generally 7 feet high and 6 feet wide carved into the wall. Many students come here to study. Shri Ganesha, lord of learning, bestows wisdom and success to all. Not many people know about this awakened and ancient shrine. Even those living in Jogeshwari may not have come here. गणपती मंदिर हे पुढे थोडे उंचावर असल्यामुळे गुंफेतील दगडी पायर्‍या चढून थोडे वरील बाजूस जावे लागते. पायर्‍यांच्या भागात पूर्ण सूर्यप्रकाश येण्याची सोय आहे. काही वेळाताच आम्ही गणपती मंदिरात पोहोचलो भव्य अशी शेंदूर विलेपीत मूर्ती दृष्टीस आली. Hi मूर्ती साधारणपणे 7 फूट उंच आणी 6 फूट रुंद भिंतीत कोरलेली आहे. अनेक विद्यार्थी येथे अभ्यास करायला येतात. विद्येचे स्वामी श्री गणेश सर्वाना बुद्धी आणी यश प्रदान करतात. असे हे जागृत आणी पुरातन देवस्थान बरेच जणांना माहित नाही. अगदी जोगेश्वरी मध्ये राहणारे ही बरेच जण येथे आले नसावेत. या आमच्या उपक्रमात आम्ही असेच काही कमी माहीत असलेली ठिकाणे आपल्या समोर आणीत असतो. जेणे करून या ठिकाणाला ही तेव्हढाच सन्मान मिळेल.
