About Sardar Purandare

Sardar Ambaji Pant, who was close to Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath, was the Upa Peshwa, i.e. the Peshwa himself had given him such powers. Purandare lived in Saswad, a village near Pune. During his reign, he created and restored many religious and historical objects. Purandare Wada is one of them.

सरदार पुरंदरे वाडा म्हणजे पेशवे कालीन मराठी साम्राज्याचे वैभव दाखविणारा एक वास्तू आविष्कार आहे. अलीकडेच प्रदर्शित झालेले तुंबाड् या चित्रपटाचे चित्रीकरण या वाड्यात झाले होते. या या वाड्याची वास्तुकाला आणि मजबुती एखाद्या अभेद्य किल्ल्याप्रमाणे आहे. त्यामुळेच का होईना तीनशे वर्षानंतर आजही हा वाडा तेवढ्याच दिमाखात उभा आहे. पण त्या वाड्याची अपुऱ्या डागडुजीमुळे झालेली पडझड पाहून फार दुःख होते. आणि मनात एक विचार येतो की आपण एवढे असंवेदनशील का ? इतर राज्यांनी उत्तम उदाहरण म्हणजे राजस्थान यांनी या प्रकारच्या वास्तू छान जतन करून ठेवल्या आहेत. पण आपल्या येथील इतिहास आणी दुर्मिळ वास्तूकला जतन करण्यास आपण असमर्थ आहोत.
